Varisa Dass
Commissioner Varisa Lall Dass was appointed to serve as the district 2 commissioner on the Palm Beach County Port Commission in December of 2022. Under her leadership, the port commenced its groundbreaking for the Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP) which removed 29,000 truck trips annually from our roadways, resulting in reduced Port emissions to the environment and continuing in the Port’s pursuit of an eco-friendly future. Commissioner Lall Dass also helped decrease railroad road closure times, ensuring the community does not have to wait longer than 5 minutes at rail stops in heavily congested roadways. Furthermore, by overseeing recruitment and expansion of new port tenant operations, Commissioner Lall Dass created hundreds of local jobs for the community. She is passionate about the Port’s internship program, and employment opportunities for local youth, graduates, veterans, and seasoned professionals.
Commissioner Lall Dass is a Practice Group Partner at Kelley Kronenberg. She litigates first party property insurance defense claims and combats insurance fraud, in an attempt to restore homeowner’s insurance premiums to historic lows prior to 2022. She also previously worked as an Assistant State Attorney, Assistant Public Defender, and a general assignment news reporter. She is a graduate of Stetson University College of Law, the University of Florida, and the University of South Florida.
Currently, Commissioner Lall Dass also serves on the Palm Beach County Planning Commission, Port Representative to the Palm Beach County Business Development Board, the board of the Downtown Development Authority for the City of West Palm Beach, and the steering committee for the Leadership West Palm Beach program at the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches. Commissioner Lall Dass was born in Trinidad and holds the notable distinction of being the first Trinidadian American to serve as Port Commissioner in Palm Beach County. In her free time, Commissioner Lall Dass enjoys painting and spending time with her friends and family in the area.
